A Gram-positive, rod-shaped, anaerobic, spore-forming
bacterium of the genus Clostridium.C. perfringens is
ubiquitous in nature and can be found as a normal component
of decaying vegetation, marine sediment, the intestinal
tract of humans and other vertebrates, insects, and soil.
